WD Easystore 8TB External Hard Drive! What's Inside Now?
WD Easystore 8TB (UPDATED in Late November 2018). Back in January of 2018, I created a video showing if you shucked the hard drive out of a Western Digital WD Easystore 8TB external drive you would happily find a Western Digital RED 8TB hard drive. The same WD Red 8TB you would find if you bought a more expensive stand-alone WD Red Internal Hard drive.
After a comment left on that video told me they were on sale again at Best Buy I purchased more and decided to crack them open once again. Wow, what a surprise left for me this time by Western Digital.
This is an amazing External Hard Drive for everyday backup purposes. If all you did was buy this WD Easystore 8TB External HD and plugged it in to uses as a standard backup drive you will be very happy. If you crack it open like me to use in a FREENAS, UNRAID, DROBO, SYNOLOGY, QNAP or other NAS setup well you'll find a non-descript WD 8TB Drive inside as on this recording.
So, Do You Backup? Tell me in the comments below your strategy.
Say you DON'T Backup? Why Not? Let me know in the comments.
UPDATE: It turns out is is still a Western Digital RED 8TB Drive. It is just rebranded. Probably to ward off drive shuckers like us. Read more here: https://dcrk.me/2Sfv3HH
